Project “Voices of Refugee Women”

What is it about?

Brava encourages refugee women to raise their voices and to be heard. The participants meet regularly. The women themselves decide on the issues, as well as the activities and initiatives of the project.

“A bridge between refugee
women and the public”

The participants come from various regions of Switzerland, have different migration histories and resident status. The heterogeneous collective offers them a safe platform for exchange and drawing the attention of politicians and the public to the most pressing concerns of their community.

Background

Refugee women hardly ever get a chance to voice their needs towards a larger public. Many of them are very isolated in their daily lives - be it in asylum centres or in their own homes where they have few contacts. Even though the gender perspective is slowly finding its way into the asylum and migration system in Switzerland, much remains to be done. Especially when it comes to including those directly affected. With the “Voices” project Brava is building a bridge between refugee women and the media, authorities and politicians.
